As of 2009, the Hattori Foundation will offer one or more of its awards winners a concerto debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the discretion of the Trustees and the orchestra.
The closing date for applications is 30th April 2011.
* Instrumentalists must demonstrate exceptional talent and be of post-graduate standard. They must provide evidence of public recital or concerto performances within the preceding 12 months together with projected plans for the following 12 months.
* Ensembles should have worked together for a minimum of 12 months and have performed in public prior to the auditions.
* All applicants must be British citizens, Foreign Nationals normally resident in the UK or Foreign Nationals who are studying full-time in the UK.
* An applicant in the solo section should not be less than 21 years nor more than 27 years of age on 30th April 2011. The average age for members of an ensemble should not exceed 27 years on 30th April 2011.
* All applications must be supported by two referees who should be professional musicians. These references should be sent under sealed cover on the forms provided.
* Auditions for awards will be held in two stages, the first by cassette or CD recording (not video) and on 4th and 5th June 2011. Applicants will be advised whether or not they have passed to the second stage before the end of May.
Stage 1 Applicants should submit:
1. a completed application form, attaching a separate sheet providing information requested;
2. 2 references in sealed envelopes;
3. a cassette or CD recording (minimum 30 minutes) which has been recorded after 1st January 2011 and which includes at least three contrasting works chosen from different periods - including Classical and Contemporary, where appropriate.
Stage 2:
Those reaching this stage will be invited to present a 20 minute recital (of contrasting works including a Classical piece where appropriate and which may include pieces performed on their recording) followed by an interview with the Trustees, the Music Advisor and an independent adjudicator if appropriate. Auditions will be held on 5th and 6th June 2011. Applicants should bring their own accompanist at their own expense. Finalists may be invited to perform in concerts organised by the Foundation at the 1901 Arts Club at Exton Street, London SE1.
The nature and amount of the award will be determined by the Trustees after assessing individual talent, musicality and the suitability of the assistance for which the applicant has applied. Applicants will be notified in writing as to the outcome of their audition during the following week. Payments will commence on 1st September 2011.
Applicants may not contact any Trustee regarding their application or performance. Any such approach would disallow their application.
Please note that assistance is not given for the repair or purchase of instruments, nor for tuition fees for full-time study.
